Athletic Facility Improvements

As part of a $3.7M± athletic stadium project, QPK Design’s landscape architectural group developed plans for two synthetic turf (infill) multi-use athletic fields, natural turf practice and softball fields, dugouts, athletic field lighting, bleachers, running track resurfacing, press box renovation, and stormwater management facilities.

The work scope included geotechnical exploration to determine soil conditions for appropriate artificial turf subbase design and natural turf topsoil remediation.

Softball field turf improvements consisted of regrading to improve surface drainage and blending compost into the topsoil to improve organic content/texture and fertilizing to improve nutrient availability.

Plans included extensive retaining walls due to the steep confined site, which were configured to be an aesthetic design element.

Plans were also developed for an entrance gateway/plaza to celebrate arrival to stadium facilities.  Wrought iron fencing, gates and signage were utilized in conjunction with brick columns to match the other structures on campus for an integrated appearance.  The gateway was further embellished with illuminated school logo plaques,  Walk pavers and landscaping further enhanced the entrance.  Immediately inside the entrance, the historic carved stone signage from the original school building is displayed on a pedestal with uplight illumination and plantings.

The project received the Norris Schick Design Award from the Town of DeWitt.
