SUNY ESF, Illick Hall Forestry Soils Laboratory Suite

LOCATION:

Illick Hall, Syracuse, NY

PROJECT SIZE:

3,308 sf

For the Forestry Soils Laboratory renovation project, end user desires were balanced with project budget and space constraints to maximize functionality. Project goals included creating a modern lab space which was flexible and offered increased visibility to members of the ESF community. In addition to the lab’s main users (Forestry Resources), the facility was also shared with related academic departments.

Traditional fixed lab casework was installed in specialty research areas along with accompanying fume hoods. Modular lab casework was installed in open areas to provide the means to relocate and reconfigure these spaces with ease. Utilities were all fed via flexible hoses with quick disconnect fittings. Rolling lab tables supplemented the lab casework for special projects.

Construction took place while adjacent spaces remained occupied. To minimize disruption to users, construction occurred weekdays between the hours of 4 pm and 1 am.
