Syracuse University, Sims Drive Landscape

LOCATION:

Syracuse, NY

PROJECT SIZE:

1,500 Linear ft

Sims Drive, on the Syracuse University campus, is a primary pedestrian corridor from the east to the campus center and Carrier Dome. Primary goals were pedestrian safety and improved appearance, transforming the former “back alley” appearance. The project reconfigured drives and walks with clearly delineated crosswalks, lighting, traffic calming strategies, and added appropriate plantings for visual relief.

The project includes drainage improvements with rain gardens to address storm water management. At the top and bottom of the steep Mt. Olympus covered staircase, heated granite stairs and shelters reduce maintenance and enhance safety transitioning between major areas of the campus.
