PROJECT SIZE:
42,714 sf (total); 2 buildings; 24 units; 114 beds
QPK Design was Designer and Architect of Record for two new 57-bed, 4-story student housing buildings. Nestled into an incline just below the campus perimeter road, the new buildings are part of the campus plan to replace the aging Scribner Village housing.
Each building accommodated 11 two-story apartment units and a one-story ADA-compliant apartment unit. The 2-story, 5-person apartment units were entered either from the upslope side across pedestrian bridges or the downslope side from walkways overlooking the Woodland Complex (Phase 2 of Sussman Village); and featured common living spaces (kitchen, dining and living room), private bedrooms, common laundry centers and indoor bicycle racks.
The sustainable design features and strategies for this project included geothermal heating/ cooling systems; daylight harvesting; energy-efficient lighting; bicycle racks; increased thermal insulation; reuse of an existing building site; and implementation of recycled, local and sustainable-building materials.
