ARCHITECTURE

ARCHITECTURE

Successful architecture is the orchestration of complex and interrelated technical and artistic disciplines into functional, beautiful, and enduring facilities.  The art of architecture balances how a building looks and feels with the technology of construction and the business bottom line.  The best balance recognizes and responds to the owner’s goals, motivations, and aspirations.  A building’s intended purpose, its users and the site context must unite with the appropriate investment and payback, construction and occupancy timetable, and useful life expectancy.

INTERIOR DESIGN

Thoughtful interior design transforms interior space and the experiences of working, learning, living and playing. More than being a backdrop, 21st century interiors reflect the identity, mission, and culture of facility owners and users. Interior design is the process by which these concepts are communicated.

Whether new construction or renovation, successful interior design unites with the building’s architecture to provide an integrated whole. Rich interiors are an experience of sculpted spatial volumes, accentuated by light, color, texture, and pattern appropriate to their functional use. Our in-house interior design professionals collaborate with our clients to create spaces using materials, finishes, and furnishings that are durable, maintainable, cost-effective, and sustainable.

LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE

At QPK Design, our site team specializes in site planning, landscape architecture, stormwater management, and site engineering to create sustainable and impactful outdoor spaces. Our holistic approach addresses site constraints, topography, climate, orientation, circulation, viewsheds, and stormwater systems, integrating innovative solutions that balance the built environment with natural ecosystems. By combining functionality, sustainability, and aesthetics, we design spaces that manage resources effectively, enhance visitor experiences, and establish a strong sense of place.

STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING

Structural Engineering is the creative manipulation of materials and forms utilizing mathematical and scientific principles to design a structure which fulfills its functional requirements. A properly engineered structure supports all the loads—gravity, wind, seismic, thermal, etc.—to which it will be exposed while being both economical and practical to construct.

GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING

Geotechnical Engineering relates to the earth. It is the exploration and analysis of soil, rock and groundwater conditions, which dictate how a project is adapted to a specific site. Combining geotechnical and structural knowledge permits the integration of site preparation, foundation design, and structural design for maximum project benefit.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainable design practice addresses the balance between environmental, economic and social values. QPK’s methodology helps our clients to achieve the highest level of sustainability within the project’s budget. Our approach combines the analysis and understanding of the natural systems, the relation between technology, economics, health and well-being of people and the environment.

BUILDING INFORMATION MODELING (BIM)

The art of architecture is now viewed in a virtual, three-dimensional, colorful world using modeling and rendering technologies allowing the study of building massing, proportion, and relationship to the landscape and surrounding structures. Animation enables seeing and moving over, around, and through the virtual model. Interior spaces are studied with the movement of natural daylight and shadow. Materials options and color schemes are easily and quickly tested. Studies show mechanical and structural systems, and how they may be expressed, or to see how they relate to one another (i.e.: clash detection).

ARCHITECTURAL VISUALIZATION

We have on-staff professionals that are well-versed in visualizing client's projects. Whether you prefer static renderings or animated walkthroughs, we are doing some form of visualization on most projects today.

We use less polished forms of visualization in our everyday modeling to better understand the building in three dimensions.

BUILDING SCIENCES AND FORENSICS

Conservation, resilience, and sustainability are driving forces that continue to critically define architecture and building. QPK actively studies buildings as systems - utilizing forensics, energy modeling, daylight analysis, hygrothermal analysis, and life cycle cost analysis to develop high performance buildings. Initial assumptions are vetted and modified, and conveyed for client and team understanding before the construction commences, confirming the most effective and viable solution is built.
